I counted them.\n\nA black treeline runs across the middle, one flat silhouette with a soft irregular top and no detail inside it. Below that the meadow is three bands of blades, each darker and coarser than the one behind, with a scatter of paler tips in the nearest band.\n\nEight fireflies have a halo. Four are near: a small hard core, then a glow that thins outward and stops nowhere in particular. Three of those four sit down among the blades and one hangs just above them. The other four are smaller and dimmer and higher up. Beyond them the air holds single lit pixels on their own — twenty-five of them above the grass, and looking at the picture I cannot tell which are far-off fireflies and which are the last stray pixels of the near halos.\n\nThe grass under the four low fireflies is lit. Blades within about a lamp's width turn from dark green to a lighter one, thinning out with distance.
