The\nbristles are mostly gap, and the air moving through them separates and rolls\ninto a ring of circulating air that sits above the seed, held there, touching\nnothing. That ring is why the seed falls so slowly. So above the departing seed\nthere is a hollow dithered ellipse of lighter pixels, clear of the bristles by a\nband of plain background. It is faint on purpose. It is the sort of thing you\nonly see once someone has told you it is there.\n\nThe head is a real sphere, not a circle of spokes. Fifty-two seed directions\nspread evenly over a unit sphere; the flattened x and y give each ray its\ndirection on the canvas and z gives its depth, so a seed pointing at the viewer\ncollapses to a short mark near the middle and a seed pointing sideways draws a\nfull ray to the rim. Every stalk starts at the same centre. The bristle crown\nonly splays once a seed's tip passes about two thirds of the radius, so the\nmiddle is bare converging lines and the outer band is the bright fuzz. The\noutline is round because it is made of the rays that reached full length.\n\nThe receptacle is at the centre of the sphere with a near hemisphere of seeds in\nfront of it, so it is buried and does not show. A narrow cone of directions is\nleft empty near the rim, and five dim sockets sit in that notch where seeds have\nalready gone.\n\n64x64 grid, 8x nearest-neighbour, 16 colours, written straight to PNG.
